After receiving the results from my music video survey I have now got the information needed to know are target audience.

1.Are you male or female?

63% Male

The result of this question showed that most of the people who took the survey were Male. Which may indicate that they may want more videos that appeal to males and music which is more appealing to them .Also as the music industry is pretty much even between male and female this is easily done.

2.How old are you ?                                             

83 % 15-18 years

17% 21-25 years

The result of this question showed that mainly the age of people who answered my question were 15-18 years of age. Which is a good age as music is an important part of most teenagers’ life and they generally know the most recent and upcoming artists also teenagers have part time jobs or money from parents to buy new CD’s and downloads.

3. Do you listen to music?

The results of this question showed me that everyone listens to music. Which indicates the music industry is a huge part of people’s life and as new artists come out and new songs are released, dates and promotion plays a huge role in getting the people to listen and download.

The results of this survey showed me that the type of music people listen to is quite varied with pop having the most votes and rock, which doesn’t surprise me as pop and rock have become very popular as it runs throughout the top 40 charts all year round. They listen to it by going clubbing clubs and DJ Radio which everyone is exposed. The rest of the music such as indie and dance was the main choice of music for people and   is also exposed to people by radio and passing on new songs through friends.

5. Do you watch music videos?

The results of this question showed that everyone watches music videos. Showing that it’s a big market as all of adolescent age groups watch them.  The music video is nearly parallel to how good the song is now.

The result of this survey showed that music videos are watched daily showing that the market for them is around and that they’re very popular.  Which again ties in with the question above as the music video is as important as the song.

7. On what channels do you watch music videos?

The result of this survey showed that MTV was the main choice of music channel, MTV has a mixed variety of music on, this shows that although the audiences taste are different most of them don’t mind listening to a mix variety.

8. What time of day do you watch music videos?

The results of this survey showed that music videos are watched in the afternoon and evening showing that school/work probably takes priority during the day and in the afternoon and evening they have more time to watch them.  Which music publishers should think about when putting new music video s out as more people will be watching in the afternoon and evening getting more coverage and showing the video to wider audience.

9. Do you watch music videos on the internet?

The results of this survey showed that music videos are watched on the internet as most people have a home computer or a personal laptop with the ease of being able to search for a music video and watch it.

10. Do you buy music videos?

The results of this survey showed that most people do not but music videos as they have the essentials to watch them free of charge on the internet or that the music video itself isn’t inspiring enough to download.

11. How often do you buy music videos?

The result of this survey showed that music videos are hardly bought, showing that if they are it has to be a really good video or an unusual one to do so.

12. Do you buy music magazines?

 The result of this survey showed that most people don’t buy music magazines as they have other resources of getting the information that they want such as from the internet or sometimes TV. Showing that if they want to sell more magazines they need to advertise more and have special edition to the magazine, something that they can’t when going on the website.

The result of this survey shows that there is no one overriding reason why people buy music magazines but there are lots of different reasons for buying music magazines. There are so many music magazines pout now that the variety that is out, is able to get to any music genre.

The result of this survey showed that there’s no one magazine that is particularly popular throughout the people that answered these questions, showing the variety of music magazines out there is evenly spread out.

The result of this survey showed that all of the people who answered this question has a social networking site showing their popularity. And that new videos and music can be easily shared between friends and family.

16. Do you use this to watch music videos?

The result of this survey showed that people share and watch music videos on their social networking sites. Which gives that music video a wider audience as people who aren’t friends may look at their social networking site and see the video and pass it on to their own friends.

17. Would you prefer to download a song or buy a CD?

The result of this survey shows that most people would prefer to download the song as I-pods and MP3 players have become so popular, this is only true for the generation of people who own I-pods and MP3’s as they have become popular within the last 8 years.

18. Is your favourite artist/band your role model?

The results of this survey showed that is a varied mix of answers as half of the people who voted said that their favourite band wasn’t their role model showing that they don’t look up to them but like their music and others said that they do look up to the band/artist, proving that the band/artist could be a influence in that person’s life.

19. Do you look at pictures of your favourite artist/band for hair and style ideas?

The results of this survey show that there artist doesn’t influence them in any way which intertwines with the question above. But the rest are influenced by the artists, showing that pictures and public image are important to an artist.

20. Do you buy music after watching/ looking at an advert?

The results of this showed that an advert is an important part of the artist’s publicity as it is the reminder about the artist and the music. And the more coverage an artist has about a video or song, the more people will listen and decide if they like it.

Everyone listens to the radio, the radio is a great way to release new music and get a new artist recognised and known. The radio is on 24 hours a day everyday throughout the year so an artist can be played and recognised.

The results show that nearly everyone listens to the radio daily so they are up to date with new releases and new artists. Which is an important marketing tool for music publisher to know as it is the widest way of getting an artist known to the public audience.
